Ornamentation
There are four steps in selecting the ornamentation for your harp.
1. Look through the designs in the Full Design Catalog selection and determine what type of look you want for your instrument. Not all of the designs are meant to go together (for example the Celtic Garland clashes with the French Leaves). Look for a single ornament or a grouping which you feel both work artistically on the harp and for you personally. Your initials may also be worked into several of the designs. William can assist you in the continuity, size, color, and location of the ornamentations so that it will flow with the lines of the harp. We recommend that rainbow combinations and surreal colors be avoided as they just do not seem to visually work against the natural woods of a harp.
2. Decide which areas on your harp you would like to have ornamented. Not all designs fit in all places. Remember that only one side of the harmonic arch is available for extensive ornamentation as the other side is occupied with harp pins, bridges, sharping levers and strings. You may wish to use the blank harp line drawing to assist you in your placement decisions.
3. Choose your designs from these suggestions or submit a design of your own for quotation.
4. Decide in which method you would like each design rendered. (See the descriptions of each ornamentation method in the selections below.)
Note: The Full Design Catalog shows each design and its pricing. The Painting and Overlay pages show color photographs of the ornamentation on some of the harps we have done. The black and white Design Catalog pages load much faster than do the color Painting and Overlay pages. The Design Catalog does have links between a design and any available color example.
