Corlieu Falls Harp and the Double Corlieu Falls Harp
52.5" tall, 34 strings, 4.6 octaves, C to G, 22 to 24 lbs. depending upon wood selected. The Corlieu Falls Harp is very close in voice, volume and touch to our 36-string Aberdeen Meadows Harp. The difference between the two is that the Aberdeen has two more strings at the top and somewhat more volume. The Corlieu is, however, very different than our 34-string Glen Aulin. Like the Aberdeen Meadows, the Corlieu Falls is an all occasion instrument with beautiful sustain and a full harmonic. The string action of the Corlieu supports both light touch, with subtlety and color, and firm touch, still rising to full voice allowing for a comprehensive dynamic range. This harp is a terrific performance or personal instrument and, like all of our Concert Series harps, relies upon the signature Rees asymmetrical, poplar soundboard. The parallel-plano back configuration makes this harp design more comfortable on the shoulder and arm while allowing the player more leg room than that of staved backs. As with all Rees', it is available in cherry, walnut, or maple. Combinations of these woods are also welcome and are especially beautiful. The Corlieu Falls Harp comes standard with tapered harp pins and full Camac sharping levers. Truitt sharping levers are also available for a minimal added cost.
One of the most interesting aspects of the Corlieu Falls Harp is that it was originally designed for Laurie Riley as her new double harp. The Double Corlieu Falls has an amazing voice with none of the tightness so frequently associated with double harps. Laurie is not the only one to have fallen in love with this harp for its rich and full dynamic voicing.
For those of you who have recognized that all of our other harps are named after meadows in and around Yosemite, our home for many years, the Corlieu Falls is a bit of a departure in that it is named after a waterfall. Corlieu Falls is located just a few miles from the southern gates of Yosemite National Park and only two miles from what became William and Pamela's home. When William and Pamela first started dating, William had told Pamela about these incredible falls and the hot spring nestled near the top. One day, Pamela made a gourmet picnic dinner for William and kidnapped him. The evening was perfect, blazing sunset, roaring water and a first kiss. We saved this wonderful place name for a very special harp and of all those we make, the Corlieu Falls is William's personal favorite.
One other quick note regarding the Corlieu Falls Harp. Until 31 December 2005, all Corlieu's had 33 strings. In January, William added the 34th string. The harp did not change in dimension at all and the additional string is at the top.
